Weekend Coffee Share

Weekend Coffee Share -Breakfast With Friends Edition

3

If were having coffee, I’d say “Hello friend! How was your week? How was work? How is your family?” When you were all settled in and finished updating me, then I would give you the scoop from what is happening with my life, while having our second cup.  The short and sweet answer would be – not much is happening!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that it has been a relatively dull week, with not much going on. Last Sunday was Father’s Day, and we had a nice lunch with my dad. Skip to Wednesday, and we had a big staff meeting at work, so I was at a different location most of the day. Other than that, is has been the usual bit of work, exercise, hanging out, some reading, some writing, and that’s really it!

If we were having coffee, since this is Friday, I would tell you that tomorrow we will be meeting our friend, [the one that lost his leg] for breakfast. He is not too good at getting around yet, so we will pick him up and take him to the restaurant. This will be a good chance to talk with him one on one and see how he is really doing.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I’m working on being more ‘present’ and in the moment. It’s not easy for me, since my mind is always going really fast, and focusing on the the next thing to do, whether it is the next chore or the next errand. I don’t take enough time to really be present and enjoy myself. It’s something that I am working on. Do you struggle with this?

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that next weekend will be a three-day one for me. I’m looking forward to just hanging out with my hubby and the doggies and relaxing.

That’s about it for now. Keep in touch! I’ll talk to you soon!

Thanks, Bing, for the coffee image!

  1. I know what you mean! Sometimes I get so busy that I forget to slow down and just enjoy life. Looks like you’ll have your chance at doing this during your three day weekend. Enjoy it! 🙂

  2. I also struggle with staying in the present: I tend to fluctuate between the past and the future, and too often ignore the great place I happen to be in right at this very moment! Thanks for the reminder…and I hope your friend is doing well.

  3. The best way I’ve found of staying in the present is through photography. You look through the lens and really focus on something and lose yourself in the moment. The rest of the world disappears. The down side is photographers are prone to accidents.
I hope your friend is going okay. My grandfather lost his leg to cancer when I was a child and I found it very confronting. If you read my coffee share, you’ll see I’ve had a few people close to me had a rough time in the last few weeks and I was going round and round in circles in my head trying to think of what to write in a sympathy card. There is a bloke from the Salvation Army at the station every Friday so I thought I’d ask him what they say to people going through adversity. His answer was very wise because he said he adapts to the person but that the important thing is to listen. I’d also add that being comfortable with silence is also a form of listening because people don’t always have the words. I am a serious talker so I’ve had to work hard on my listening skills and they still need much improving. I collect old china tea cups and they’re just perfect for that caring cup of tea and putting you in a relaxed mindset.
Listening also frees us up from trying to think of what to say.
I hope that is helpful. I know how hard it can be to know quite how to respond to someone else’s difficulties.
    Love and blessings,

  4. Yes I do! While I have slacked on my yoga practice it was a good way to remain in the present. It’s basically the foundation of the practice. I began reading a book about which I never finished lol.

  5. That’s something I’ve always had to work on. I’ve even slacked off lately on my gratitude journal. On the flip side I’ve had some relatively decent subject to photograph and write about. 🙂 Hopefully I can keep the momentum going.

  7. Don’t be too hard on yourself! The world we live in now is designed to be fast and furious and it takes dedication to be mindful. Well done on helping your friend can’t imagine what it must be like to lose a leg

  8. I am getting better at focusing on the moment instead of worrying about the future, or just as often, the past. By taking the time to be present, I think it is making me a better person overall. I’m happy to hear your friend seems to be doing well. It will take time. It helps he has people around to support him.

  9. I’ve been surfing on-line greater than three hours nowadays, yet I by no means found any interesting article like yours.
It is pretty price enough for me. Personally, if all website owners and bloggers made excellent content material as you did, the net can be much more helpful than ever before. http://www.yahoo.net
